Monday 8 September: Castelo de Vide
The sun is out and spirits are raised again. We cycle off gently up hill for about 40 minutes to Castelo de Vide another fortified town atop a hill. It’s more lively than Marvao and after a rather nasty milky coffee in the square we explore the narrow and steep cobbled streets and admire the views. The tower and synagogue are closed on Mondays but we get the gist. A craft beer in the square and then lunch in the cellar of Don Pedro restaurant. We order goat stew as recommended by a Dutch couple at the campsite who visit the area frequently. It’s good although quite bony and anatomical! It takes only 20 minutes to cycle back downhill and we swim and read by the van. Bread and cheese for supper. We’re off tomorrow and aiming for the Alentejo coast.
